Draft of class plans

Today we will:

1. Get wikified!

  • make folders
  • create pages
  • upload documents
  • make sure front page has all necessary information

Simple wiki rules....Follow them
  • the front page of your wiki will be your cover pg. Include your name, section, triad infor or whatever else you would like to include.
  • Now it is time to create virtual folders in which you will store your work. Click on the tab, "Pages & Files," In the left hand bar menu you will see FOLDERS +. You will add four folders. They will be Titled. Rhetorical Analysis, Research 102, Evaluation, Final Portfolio
  • to make a page within PBworks simply Click create a page on the top right hand side. Title the page, and this will take you right to a clean page to start writing. Once you have saved the page go to the right hand side bar menu and put this page into a the proper folder you just created. All work at this point in time will be stored in the Project One folder.
  • Please use the following template to set up your front page. You can copy and paste this from my wiki into your wiki if you would like :)

Everything else in PBworks is easy...if you can text, and post to FB you can operate your wiki page.

Now I must be able to see your wiki pages and have access to them. So be sure before you leave class today, you have added your name to the master list with a link to your wiki page.

  • NOW a must for me to be able to see you work you must add me as a writer on your page. SO go to the side of you wiki and add me as a writer. Use my fdziadek@aol.com address and add your seminar leader's address. The whole idea of using this wiki is to protect your work and keep it private. You have the power to keep you work as private as possible. So no one but the people you want have access to your work. Your instructors need access to your work, but any one else is up to you.

2. Please turn in all remaining Syllabus agreements

3.  Remember you will be needing your textbooks, so make sure you are making arrangements to get them. I am putting the first few readings online, but you will need to get your textbook.

4. Discussion time

You were asked to read two articles"We are all Writers now" and "Clive Thompson on the New Literacy'

We will now break into groups and discuss the following questions. After the allotted  time we will come together as a class and discuss.

Discussion Questions from "Clive Thompson on the New Literacy"

  • Explicate the rationale behind "Andrea Lunsford theory that  we are in the middle of a Writing Revolution?
Do you buy into her study? Why or why not?

  • Andrea Lunford says your writing is about "persuading and organizing and debating, even if its over something as quotidian as what movie to go see," Do you agree? Explain.

  • What would be your recommendation to writing teachers,  to help students master formal academic prose?

Discussion Questions from "We Are All Writers Now"

  • Do you agree with the Critics who say: "Blogs, Twitter, Facebook are cheapening language and tarnishing our time"?  Explain with your own experience with writing with these tech tools.

  • Does the fact that more people are writing mean its all good. Does quantity out weigh quality? What is quality writing?  According to research students write (emails, status updates, tweets) about seven hours a day, has all this writing made your feel more comfortable with writing as the article suggests?  Explain
  • How would you define communication? What would be your recommendations for all the new voices who are publishing their writing in order to produce quality text?

HW:

  • If you have not created a wiki page, DO IT   & Set it up
  • Final chance to turn in your syllabus agreement
  • Be sure to see me to add your name to class list of wikipages
  • Catch up on articles and Watch video about upcoming Readings.
  • Familiarize yourself with wiki
