  APA Annotated Bibliographies

Today we will:

1. Your Rhetorical Analysis is due as you walk in the door.  You must put the finalized and published document on the front desk. IF you don't have a paper, then you don't have a ticket to stay in class; you will need to go somewhere and complete the assignment and turn it into me, but it will be considered LATE with possible point deduction.

2. Journal time.

You were asked to write about the article Argument as Conversation.  Please make sure it is posted.  The page should be titled  Argument as Convo

Prompt: Prompt: What role, according to Greene, does reading play in the kinds of writing you will be asked to do in college?  What if anything, does Greene's article leave your wondering? That is, along with whatever questions he answers, what questions does he raise in your mind?

3. Researching....what's up next for you? We can't delve into one with out looking at the final writing project. (This will be a review)

Project 2:Research 102 TAMUK

Project 3 Argument of Evaluation with solutions

3b.  We will complete an annotated bib as a class.  Get into groups of three, and use the Rhetorical Situation article as the source.

The group will create a legit annotation for this source. We will then come back together as a class and you will share what you have put together.

here is an example from last semeter.  Rhet Sit Bib.docx

4. Did you test the scope of your topic?

ALL  classes HW: Test the Scope of your topic    come back with evidence of doing this with at least two workable topics. Continue to add to your Research Log.

If not you will need to do that now, and then create a page and title it RESEARCH  LOG.

This is where you will keep track of the sources you have been inquiring about for your researched topic.

5. Research LOG

You will now from the list of possible topics you  made a list of in class on Wed, start conducting priliminary research and further test the scope of the topic.

Create a list of possible topics, and start to do preliminary research on them and log it all there in this page.

Info to include in the research log.  The source, date it was published, Your access date, where you accessed it, brief sentence what it is about, and how you plan on using it.

You will need to do this for everything you consider, even if you decide not to use it.   It is always good to have excellent records of your research.

Step ONE: Find two reliable sources

Step TWO: Read the sources

Step THREE: Create the Reference Page  for the source Source 1 (APA)

Step FOUR: Write the annotation for source one (APA)

Step FIVE: Repeat Steps three and four with the second source etc..

Step SIX:  Save the annotations in a  Word Document  ANNOTATION START

Step Seven: Upload your ANNOTATION START document to your wiki page and place it in your PROJECT 2 folder.  <-- This means you will have to create one.

6.. This project is going to require you to manage your time and stay focused. If you are going to complete this project on time these things are going to be paramount.

Suggestion 1: ONCE YOU DECIDE on a topic... I would suggest you do TWO annotations a day. This way you will complete all your annotations on time.

Remember the steps you take now, will save you time in the last project.

Suggestion 2: Use Son of Citation to create your Reference page.  Take the time to examine your source so as to get the correct result for the source.  There is a certain way to cite a database vs. an online article.

7. Some good online sources.

Frequently used databases

Academic Search Premier

Communication Source

ERIC

Humanities FULL Text

JSTOR Electronic Journal Archive

LexisNexis Academic

Science Direct

Texas Ref Center

Oxford Academic Journals

Worldcat

So links within your project two so far.... Malcom X, Argument of Convo, Testing the Scope, Research Log.

These are all assignments and they should be pages within your Second project folder.

HW: 1. Read Speech Acts, Genres, and Activity Systems. Supplemental Readings S18  Create a page within your new folder title it Activity Systems.  Prompt: Explain what Bazerman means by a "social fact," and then provide a few examples of social facts that have had consequences for you recently.
2.  Finalize your topic, and come with two legit sources for class on Monday.   All topics must be finalized with me by MONDAY, no exceptions.
