4.  Your outline is due today.

It would be grand if you would have a hard copy, so I can look at them now and get them back to you.

Some notes about checking the thesis

  1. identifies the topic of the essay,
  2. states the main points developed in the essay,
  3. clarifies how all of the main points are logically related, and
  4. conveys the purpose of the essay.

Some points to look for in the outline

  • Intro.  Hook, thesis, supporting statements, lead into brief history.
  • History of topic.  Do they have these outlined. Do you have a good sense of what is going on, and what
  • A good evaluation outline will have strong viewpoints; this is an opportunity to be opinionated about the subject matter.
  • What is there structure to present information? Can it be determined?  Is it better to go in chronological or from least to greatest of importance?
  •  Make sure sentences and details make sense.  Details should be presented clearly and the essay follows proper format structure.
  • Do they have sources within the outline?  Citations?  Do you have a good sense they have enough evidenciary support?
