I don't ask for things hard copy much, but when I do, I expect it to be ready as you walk in the door. All papers must be stapled together, nothing else will be accepted.
2. Journal time.
Reading due to today is: The Composing Process of Unskilled College Writers pg 615
Reading prompt: Perl argues that it's a good thing when people don't wait to write until they know everything they want to say --rather, she wants writers to use the clarifying power of the act of writing itself to help them figure out what they want to say. To what extent does this strategy resemble your own writing process?
(You know the drill, we will put 10 min on the clock and write. )
3. Review of Mid-Term Portfolio Requirements.
F18 MT Portfolio Description
Example students Mid-term portfolio Elisa S.
Part two of class:
1. Our Plan of action for Project 3
Review Argument of Evaluation
Explicating Argument of Evaluation
2. Suggestions for Evaluation outline:
- Often the opening paragraph of an evaluative essay explains what you're evaluating and why. Tell readers why they should care about your subject and take your opinion seriously.
- Nothing adds more depth to an opinion than letting other challenge it. When you can, use the resources you have to get responses to your opinions.
Think about your organization
** Your evaluation may take various forms, but it's likely to include
- a specific claim
- a explanation or defense of the criteria
- an examination of the claim in terms of the stated criteria.
- evidence for every part of the argument
- considerations of alternative views and counter arguments
The criteria (the standards of measurement you created) can become the major sections of your paper.
--you should have these written out. now start creating the major sections
--then start adding the facts to validate those standards.
3. Work on your outline. Friday in class you should have a working outline.
Critical Evaluation Essay Outline (Suggested as well as above from pic in class plans)
Read, "The Burden of Laughter" Supplemental Readings F18 (It's a pdf file. Please print and bring with you to class. In order to complete the next assignment you MUST PRINT IT OUT AND BRING IT TO CLASS.
Print it out the article and highlight (or write out) the evaluative claims, the support for those claims, and the counter claims. I would suggest using different colored highlighters. 2. Continue working on your outline.
