part one:  ONLINE class

1A. Journal Writing 3  <-- Create a page on your wiki and title it Journal Writing 3

Prompt: You have turned in your first draft of your first essay. What did you do differently in writing this paper than in your papers you wrote last semester? What worked really well for you? What didn't work so well? Have you identified parts of your writing process that you can, will or want to change?  How will you make application of these insights as you start to revise for draft two?

2.  Remember you are to post your draft 1 (shitty first draft) on your wiki page and also on black board, so I can take a look at it and offer comments.  Here is the link to TAMUK's blackboard tamuk blkboard link

3. Peer Review.... Now its time to review your peers paper.

You will be using the peer review guide linked within your paper one assignment.

This section has been copied right from your project one assignment page.  Rhetorical Analysis <-- MW  2 class  &  F16 TB Rhetorical Analysis  <-- TR 8 am class

Peer Review. Having downloaded and filled outpeerreview1.doc for each essay in your peer review group, return those forms to your partners during peer review. You will need to attach it to your wiki so as to receive credit for the peer review. Please exchange contact information so you can let them know when review is complete and they can upload the review form.

Revision. Using the comments offered by your peer reviewer and in conference, considering our discussions of revision in class and the tips contained on the Global Local  Revsion Worksheet revise your essay. As you do so, be sure that you move your paper beyond being a mechanical exercise that simply points out pathos, logos, and ethos in your text -- these concepts should inform your analysis, but you should produce a paper that sounds more like cultural analysis than a student assignment on pathos, logos, and ethos. Look to your thesis statement in particular for guiding your paper toward a sophisticated discussion of how rhetorical appeals function in your texts.

4. Some additional Peer Review information

PEER REVIEW GUIDELINES For this peer review you are required to:

1. Find the thesis statement. Underline it. Go through the requirements for a thesis statement we have went over in class and that can be found in your textbook and on the wiki page handouts. Does your peer review partners thesis follow these requirements? Be specific. I want to see some evidence that you actually compared the thesis statement. If you can’t find a thesis statement, write that also. Give suggestions on how to change one of the existing sentences to a thesis or suggest a focus.

2. Check the introduction for an interesting fact or observation that draws the reader into the paper. Remember all the glorious ways we can get into our material….if not review the information in your textbook and or the handouts on the wiki page.

3. Read EACH body paragraph. You will review the material in its entirety and examine the issue, concepts, ideas they have developed. Are they being persuasive in their argument?   ß Do they do this ?  Do they form an opinion based on the re-examined material and new found knowledge based on their research?   LOOK AT THEIR CITATION! IS IT CORRECT!  DO THEY HAVE A Reference PAGE?

4. THE conclusion Are the summing up their main points they discussed in their paper. Are you feeling convinced at this point about their argument? Do they rephrase their thesis. Do they make their conclusion interesting and original? They can do this by: making a prediction, a suggestion, using a quotation or a call to action. Remember being able to give and receive criticism on your writing is an important step in becoming a better writer!

PEER REVISION WORKSHEET reminder.

Don't forget these five steps that will aid in the revising and editing process.
