Now there are a couple of videos in class plans today. You are responsible for the content within this instructional videos. There will not be class time devoted to watching these videos, you must watch them on your own time.

1. Review of Researching with the databases.

Research 102 the databases and lib

2. Now a huge problem with your Rhetorical Analysis essays was documenting sources, and the use of reliable sources. Now we don't have class time to cover this in detail again, but here is a video that will instruct you and inform you about MLA/APA, evaluating sources and citation.   It would be helpful to start keeping a research log. Here you would document, what sources you have looked at, what they are about, where you got them, keywords used, and how the in-text citation would look.

This seems like a lot of extra work, but in the end, it will save you time, when you are most pressed for time.  Also it will help you get really familiar with good research techniques for larger college projects and outside of the classroom on the job.

3. Annotated Bibs.  Please listen and watch the following video for more details about annotated bibs.

4. We will work together as a class on an example ANN BIB.   (Annotated bib )

We are going to go over the required components and do one together, so there should be no question in your mind as to how one would write an annotated bib.

Let's use the Rhetorical Situation Reading as our example annotated bib.

Rhet Sit Bib.docx

4B. Please make sure your notes are posted that show how you tested the scope of your topic.  You will be marrying your topics today.

Please use easybib.com to help create your Reference  for each bibliography.

5. Annotated Bib Journal.

Create a page within your wiki and title it Ann Bib Journal.

Please write on the following Prompt.

Please share your thoughts and feelings and experiences with annotated bibs. How have you done them in the past? Have you done them in the past? What purpose do you feel they serve? Have you ever used them before in creating larger research writing assignments.  The goal of this discussion is to find out how and when you would use this type of research activity and make application of it not only within the academic realm but also in the real world.  Yes, I know your boss is not going to ask you to create a Bibliography, but think further as to when and where you could and would use this to aid you in your job, in your life etc..

6. Everyone needs to see me before they leave, so I can approve their topics.

7.  APA jeopardy.  coming up on Friday. So study up on your APA.  You will be earning points to your mid-term.

Here is a powerpoint to help you study.  APA Purdue PP.ppt

HW: 1. Please have at LEAST 3 of them done by class on Wed, so we can do a peer review and make sure you are including all the required information. ALSO due....Choose one of these sources to write your source review.   <--This will be your shitty first draft of the source review.  NO worries we will work on this in class on Wed in detail.

2. Read for class on Wed.  Reading due: Helping Students use Textual Sources Persuasively pg. 428  Supplemental Readings F18  <-- There will be a journal and discussion, so come prepared.

3. MARRIAGE TO your TOPIC

Please have your free-write on your desired topic ready in your hand Fri.

Check...are you entering an argument of evaluation?

  • make a judgement about quality.
  • challenge such a judgement
  • construct a ranking or comparison
  • explore criteria that might be used in making evaluative judgement

Issues of evaluation crop up everywhere -in judgments you  make about public figures or policies; in the choices you make about instructors and courses; in the recommendations you offer about books, films, or television programs; in the preferences you exercise in choosing products, activities, or charities.  Evaluations typically use terms that indicate value and rank -good/bad, effective/ineffective, best/worst, competent/incompetent, successful/unsuccessful. When you choose a topic for an evaluation, consider writing about things on which other regularly ask your opinion or advice.

4. APA Powerpoint.  Get brushed up on your APA citation for Friday's
