Today we will:

1. Turn in any Syllabus Agreements not given to me on Tues.

2. Please make sure you have read the chapter on Brainstorming in your Writing text.

3. Discuss the Video.

We will break into groups of four and discuss the following questions about the song.

**Discuss the political messages being conveyed verbally and visually? Then examine why is this relevant to society and What has the government (Congress) done about it?

Now take a focused perspective.

1. What is the overall argument the author/musician  presents? 
2. What is the musicians’ purpose? To inform? To persuade? To criticize? 
3. Who is the musicians intended audience? 
4. How does the writer arrange his or her ideas? Chronologically? 
5. How does the writer use diction? (Word choice, arrangement, accuracy, is it formal, informal? Technical versus slang?) 
6. Does the writer use dialogue? Quotations? Why? 
7. Are important terms repeated?  
8. What is the sentence structure of song? Are there fragments, run-ons? Is it declarative, 
imperative, exclamatory? What effect does this have? 
9. Does the writer use punctuation to create an effect? Italics, underlining,  parentheses? 
Which marks does the writer use, and when?
10. What features does the song use? rhythm,  instruments, music, videos etc

5. You should have a list of possible songs you want to use for your Essay One,  Remember also you will need three songs for seminar and from those three you will write a paper on one song.

One of your homework assignments was to make a list of polititcal songs you are familar with and would possibly use.

If you have not done that please so so now. Those of you have have done this now need to pick another brainstorming technique to focus on on your song choice. I recomend using journaling or questioning.
