Today we will:

1. Review for your Final Reflective Portfolio.

part one: group discussion over Audience

What does it mean to write for an audience? Think about several recent texts you have written both in and out of school, and consider how the audience impacted them. If you had spent more time thinking about the audience needs, how might you have revised the texts?

part two:  application of this information turned knowledge to your final reflective portfolio.

Final Reflective Portfolio

  • Why is this important?
  • What sort of evidence should you include & how does this connect to your audience?
  • IN thinking about your audience how does this affect your time management to complete this assignment?

2.  Draft two is due today.

  A. One of the big issues in draft one was citation.  So you were asked to add the rainbow element to your draft.  Example of Rainbow Element

  B. Also properly introducing your sources for the first time      Introducing Quotes Correctly pdf

  C.  subsequent usage of that source in your paper with correct citation.

Today, our peer review will focus on these issues.

3. First  Do your References/ Works Cited match up with your in-text citations?

  • IF not, then you  need to find where the missing source is in your paper (or)
  • take the source out of your paper.

4. Establishing the Ethos of your sources the first time your use the source.

  • You have been reading these sources over and over for the past four weeks, so you are familiar with them, but your audience that you are trying to convince is not, so you need to establish their credibility.  This means that you are also establishing your own credibility as a writer in the process.

5.  NOW, every subsequent time you use that source, how do you introduce it?

  • This is where the handout Introducing quotes correctly comes in handy because many times, students use the same introductions over and over again.  It's horrible, so 52 different ways are given to your here to help you refine your writing.   NOW use it.  :)

HW: 1. Continue to revise draft two and publish our final draft by 5:00 pm the last class day.  Here is a check list to help you complete a self-review before your final submission. Research_Paper_Evaluation_Checklist APA.doc   2. Your Final reflective Portfolio is due posted to your wiki page by your scheduled final time.  This means when you walk into the class to present your oral presentation your FINAL Reflective portfolio, needs to be completed and posted, ready for evaluation.

A little humor as Finals week approaches.  :)
