Weekly Reflective

Each week you will write a reflective journal, so this 8 week term we will reflect quite a bit.

Kathleen Yancey says in her book Reflection in the Writing Classroom: “Reflection entails a looking forward to goals we might attain, as well as casting backward to see where we have been… we seek to discover what we know, what we have learned, and what we might understand” (6).

Every week you are to post a reflective journal (depending on time ) I will ask to start this journal in lab and reflect over the things you have learned in class & lab that week (at times the previous week).

Please don’t give me a regurgitation of the class plans. I know what we did in class. :)

This is a thinking exercise, a process what we did in class and its purpose to your learning cycle.

Some questions to help you in this process:

  • What was your immediate reaction?
  • What did you think about it once the class discussed it?
  • What were your other classmates reactions/thoughts/opinions compared to yours?
  • Was there anything that offended you or that you disagreed with?
  • Anything you agreed with?
  • Have you had any kind of personal experience?
  • How do you think this will aid in your writing at the collegiate level?
  • Did you have any difficulties or blocks?
  • What helped you out the most?

These weekly journals will aid in the creation of your reflective letter for your final reflective portfolio.
